While homeownership symbolizes the American dream, discrimination has systematically prevented generations of families from communities of color and those with lower incomes from attaining this dream. Opening Doors strives to dismantle these discriminatory barriers, dedicating itself to enabling successful first-time homeownership for Proud Ground's Priority Populations - households of color and families with lower incomes.

Symone’s Story - Proud Ground Homeowner

Symone is celebrating her first year as a new homeowner. She loves her three-bedroom North Portland townhome, which she shares with her younger sister who just graduated college.

“I really like the idea of buying a home that would stay afforable for another family if I decide to move on.”
